God is bigger than you think He is. You are smaller than you think you are.
“‘My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts,’ says the LORD. ‘And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine. For just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so my ways are higher than your ways and my thoughts higher than your thoughts’” (Isa. 55:8-9 NLT). As Christians, we’re called to be different. That’s a no-brainer. Don’t get drunk. Don’t have premarital sex. Don’t steal. Don’t lie. Don’t cuss. You’ve probably heard those commands. And chances are, you’ve heard them from the supposedly “good” people of the world — Christians.
Now, don’t get me wrong, those statements are true. We are, indeed, called to be different. But there’s a reason why. Most people know God’s commands, but if they don’t know the reason behind those commands, they’ll likely continue living in disobedience. I had the inclination to read in Deuteronomy this morning—not my first choice. Hey, I’m just being honest. The Apostle Paul is usually more interesting than Moses.
So I opened my Bible to the fifth book and began reading. In only three verses, God revealed something to me I hadn’t before realized. Let’s take a look: “Father, I don’t know what I’m doing.”
And that’s the beginning of my column. Nearly every week, I struggle to find something worth sharing with you. Part of the problem comes from a lack of prayerful intention. I typically write on Tuesdays. Then, I forget about it. When Friday comes, I often forget that it’s even in the newspaper. Because I only consider my column one out of seven days, I’m struggling to find the right words to share. |
